A patient diagnosed with pauciarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis after a mechanical prosthetic valve replacement due to aortic regurgitation.
Valvular heart disease is a rare complication of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA), with most cases associated with polyarticular JRA. The aortic valve is most commonly affected, and valvular involvement occurs months or years after the onset of JRA. Reported cases of valvular heart disease in patients with JRA in a pauciarticular pattern are rare. We report a case of severe aortic insufficie...
متن کاملAetiological role of bacteria associated with reactive arthritis in pauciarticular juvenile chronic arthritis.
BACKGROUND The cause of juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) is unknown. Pauciarticular JCA is the most common subtype and can be subdivided into early (type I) and late onset (type II) forms, the latter clinically resembling reactive arthritis. METHODS The cellular immune responses to bacteria associated with reactive arthritis in blood and synovial fluid from 39 children with pauciarticular JCA...
متن کاملAortic incompetence in HLA B27-positive juvenile arthritis.
The early onset of isolated aortic incompetence in a male child with HLA B27 and peripheral arthritis is reported. Acute anterior uveitis and lone aortic incompetence occurred at 1 and 9 months respectively after the development of the acute inflammatory arthritis. The uveitis resolved with local therapy and the arthritis remitted 10 months after the onset. There has been no recurrence of the a...
متن کاملFate of herpes simplex virus in lymphocytes from blood and joint effusions of systemic and pauciarticular juvenile chronic arthritis.
The fate of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in the lymphocytes of patients with juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) was studied by previously described methods. Lymphocytes isolated from blood and joint effusions of 18 patients with systemic JCA and 11 patients with pauciarticular JCA usually supported viral growth normally.
متن کاملPredictive value of synovial fluid analysis in juvenile chronic arthritis.
To investigate the value of synovial fluid analysis in predicting the articular evolution of juvenile chronic arthritis, synovial fluid from 29 patients with oligoarticular onset juvenile chronic arthritis were examined prospectively. The patients were subsequently classified after a three year period of observation as having polyarticular (10 patients) or pauciarticular (19 patients) disease. ...
